Now Playing Tracks

—my friend Kait

Once upon a time…

A poor girl walked through her town. It was the middle of winter and she came across three orphans. They were freezing cold and hungry so she gave them her boots, hat and gloves and something to eat.

A beggar man was next and she gave him her coat.

Her dress went next, then her chemise, and soon enough she ended up naked in the middle of the woods at night in winter. She looked up at the stars and started to cry. The stars, so moved by her goodness, wept for her and it rained down as gold. The girl found herself in a paradise.

In her village the people found each of the gifts she’d generously given and they worked out that she’d gone into the forest alone, but they never found her no matter how hard they looked

Based off of The Brothers Grimm’s tale titled Star Money, created specifically for Rockers closet, the actual piece is made of shrink film so when printed and baked it becomes much smaller, and somewhat darker. I’ve posted it here in it’s original side to better show off the details. Tomorrow I’ll show some more!

—my friend Kait as Little Red—

Once upon a time…

A little girl wandered into the wood to bring her sick Grandmother some treats. She was warned to stay on the path and not to talk to strangers. So the first thing she does, once she’s out of sight of her protective mother is to leave the path.
"I know a short cut" She says to herself. "I’ll pick some flowers for Grandmother" She reasons further. "No one will know."
Then out of the woods sneaks the wolf. “Hello there, darling” He croons “What is a pretty little thing like you doing out here all alone? Come closer…”

—My friend Meribel as the girl who transforms into a raven—

Once upon a time…

there was a queen who gave birth to a baby girl. The little princess once cried so much that the queen, seeing the ravens flying outside the window and struck by inspiration, yelled “You are so noisy that I wish you’d turn into a raven and fly away so I could get some sleep!”

And the little princess did.

She flitted out the window and flew far away. Alone she lived in the forest and waited for someone that could break her curse…

You know you’re a lit nerd when your bookshelf looks like this… and yet you still have NOTHING to read.

(This is my actual bookshelf)

I have three bookshelves.  Two are filled with books (the other is mundane nonsense items that I need to sort to make room for yet MORE books).

One large one is filled with all my geekery, recipe books, Dungeons and Dragons manuals, etc.

The second large one has my history books (mostly French history), etiquette books, art and fashion books, and old books that were rescued from various book sales.

THe top of my small bookshelf is full of Shakespeare, Lewis and Montgomery.

My desk is littered with magazines, language books, and my university yearbook, along with Sylvia Plath, Anne Frank and Peter S. Beagle.

My headboard is also a bookshelf, and two sections are filled with Tolkien, and Rowling, and on the ledge made by my boxspring, I have my writing notebook and The Virgin Suicides by Jeffery Eugenides.

Yeah… I only have one book shelf, which looks like this. As does my mantle. And my staircase. And my coffee table. And my TV shelf. And yet I keep coming home with books!

Toothbrushes are evil

"Can you make spoon or fork jewelry?" They asked.
"Why no" I answered, as I’ve never made them and never figured out how to make them and I’m sure I don’t have tools to do it. And then I said the thing I should never have said; "I did make a toothbrush bracelet once as a kid!" It’s the truth, of course, but I’ve never tried it since then. I remember as a kid finding this nearly impossible…

But I’m an adult now! I’m going to be 24 soon! This has to be easier now. Right? Right!

Wrong. Oh so very very wrong. I don’t know if my dad, who helped me as an 8 year old, was stronger, or more clever or if they’re different kinds of plastic… I don’t know, but what I do know is that what I have to show for tonight’s efforts are some odd red marks on my hands, splatter burns down my front and odd U shaped toothbrushes.

Of course I’m not giving up. Tomorrow more attempts shall be made. But tonight I shall lick my wounds and let those plastic jerks sit downstairs and quiver in fear for what will come tomorrow.

Welcome!

Hey all!
Well I’m an accessory designer, and I take great joy in transforming old things into new ones. I work primarily with jewelry and fascinators (Right now my silly little hats are made completely of paper, since that’s what I have readily available but I’m hoping to make higher end ones out of buckram as soon as I can get enough money to buy the wooden molds.)

Right now I’m thrilled to be working on several projects for Rockers Closet; a small boutique type store on fabric row in Philadelphia. They have tons of cool clothes for a great price and I’m happy to be working with them.

If you’d like to see the things I’ve already made check out my gallery, more coming soon!
